Alexandra wins the LGIAsuper Community Volunteer Award for 2019

Congratulations to Alexandra Wells for taking out the LGIAsuper Community Volunteer Award at the 2019 Seven News Queensland Young Achiever Awards.

The award covers all aspects of volunteering including youth at risk, the homeless and disadvantaged, emergency services, health, aged care and not for profit organisations.

Alexandra established the Gold Coast Inclusive Sports Program for children with disabilities and additional needs at just 15 years of age. Since then she has been heavily involved in the running, promoting and training of volunteers for the program. Today 90 athletes and 100 volunteers work towards Alexandra’s vision – coaching fine motor skills, teamwork and leadership in a fun and inclusive environment.

Alexandra was excited about the program’s future, “I can't wait to start creating more of these programs across the country. I'm going to start in QLD, before modelling them in other states and territories around Australia. I think it's really important to create an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to access and play sport”, and for the achievements of her fellow young volunteers, "It was so inspiring being in the same room as so many incredible young people on Friday night. All of the volunteers have done absolutely amazing things and I am feeling so inspired and hopeful about the future.”.

Other nominees in the field included Michael Morgan (25), Jessica Taylor (22) and Aiden Meldrum (22). LGIAsuper is proud to acknowledge the outstanding contributions and positive impacts these amazing young people have brought to their Queensland communities.
