Michael goes Above and Beyond for people of Torres Shire

Michael Zitha has taken home the Above and Beyond Award at last night’s Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) Queensland Awards for Excellence.

As the Manager of Community Services at Torres Shire Council, Michael acts as a role model and mentor for disengaged youth. He consistently goes ‘above and beyond’ to serve others, living by the mantra ‘no matter how much effort is required, the result should be a positive outcome for the community.’

Michael is responsible for organising and hosting events such as the Winds of Zenadth Festival, NAIDOC Week Festival, ANZAZ celebrations and Mabo Day activities. He has dedicated significant amounts of his free time to coaching and managing touch football teams and has been the driving force behind council upgrades to gyms, playground facilities and family barbecue areas. He is passionate about creating opportunities for small businesses and promoting cruise ship visitation to the region.

Head of Relationship Management, Ben Moles said he was thrilled to present the award to Michael on behalf of LGIAsuper.
